DESCRIPTION:
This new translation, by the Nobel laureate poet Seamus Heaney, offers modern listeners an accessible, intensely dramatic text. It amply demonstrates why this epic has spread its influence over more than a millennium of literature.. Join Beowulf, a young warrior, as he achieves glory by fighting and killing three fantastic monsters

At only 100 or so pages of actual English and not the Old English that is written in its original form on the side, it seemed the least daunting of the famous epic poems to tackle. "Kindle Issues Fixed" according to Michael P. McGuire. I'm not sure why reviews of the audio CD are mixed in with the Kindle book, but rest assured that the Kindle edition contains both the modern English and Anglo-Saxon texts and is formatted very nicely now.. "AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL?" according to cebepe. Everything depends on the translation, and for a work as old and remote as this, the translation really has to be an original work in its own right while retaining its character as a translation. This is nearly impossible, yet Heaney pulls it off. Fabulous.
