This is not the best of Parker's Spenser books, but I only say that because the plot is a bit gritty for my taste.The plot is well crafted and there is a good deal of suspense, but Hawk in particular and even Spenser show a ruthlessness that I found hard to enjoy. While they had pity for those who were caught in the toils of evil people, we saw less of the gentler side of their natures and a callousness about killing which I found rather repellent.In spite of that, the book was worth read. Maurice Grossman said Double Deuce. This is a good detective story about the ghettos and gang violence. There is lots of sociology attempts to explain how everything happens the way it does. The story is very interesting.
Hawk wants Spenser to wage war on a street gang. Susan wants Spenser to move in with her. So why not risk both?. Either way, Spenser's out of his element
