"Captivating Story" according to Lori D'Amico. First, I am glad the author and her children survived and that "Shelby" had the courage to finally break free and tell her story! The story itself definitely captures and holds the reader's attention and it is a relatively easy read. The majority of violence in this story takes place in Maine where I have lived for many years and still do. I can identify many of the places mentioned. I do have to say I found it hard to believe the author could not get help sooner than she did given the. "A revealing first-person narrative of why bad is normal." according to Rusty Square. It's sad that there are so many relationships similar to the author's. I read this book as an outsider. Violence was not part of my family and I never saw it in anyone else's. I have mixed emotions about this book . There are many agencies that are there to help wives and Mothers to escape abuse and Miss Snow didn't contact any of them . She doesn't say where her first child is . Why was she willing to have her children live in such deplorable conditions ? I haven't walked in her moccasins so I'm trying not to judge . The book is worth reading . It is a quick read but not one that is quickly forgotten .

Writing this book has been a form of therapy for me and perhaps better than professional therapy might have been. This is a true story of one woman's life with violence. I've heard of an analogy about only being able to see the room that you are in, and not being able to see the house until outside of it.. I also wrote this to help with my own healing. Seeing the relationship now from the outside has revealed its true nature. Being in a dysfunctional relationship for so long, battling extreme violence has been baffling until now. I wrote this book to let other victims know that they are not alone
