Five CDs, 6 hoursLife was good for Liz and Jack Sutherland. In 18 years of marriage, they had built a family, a successful law practice, and a warm, happy home near San Francisco, in a house on Hope Street. Then, in an instant, it all fell apart. It began like any other Christmas morning, with joy and children's laughter. But for Jack Sutherland, a five-minute errand ends in tragedy. And suddenly, Liz is alone, facing painful questions in the wake of an unbearable loss. How can she go on without her husband, her partner, her best friend? How can she grieve when she must console five devastated children, including one with special needs of his own? Powered by her children's love, Liz finds the strength to return to work, to become both mother and 'daddy', coaching her youngest son for the Special Olympics. And one by one the holidays come and go before her eyes: Valentine's Day without flowers and without JackEasterJuly 4thThen, just weeks before Labor Day, a devastating accident sends her oldest son to the hospital-and brings a doctor named Bill Webster into her life. Bill becomes a friend to Liz as he slowly heals her shattered son.And as long as the days of summer blend into fall, a new relationship offers new hope, and Liz reflects on what she has, on what she's lost, on the little blessings that give strength when nothing else is left. Then, with the first anniversary of her husband's death approaching, and with it another Christmas in the house on Hope Street, Liz will face one more crisis before she can look back at a year of mourning and change-and ahead to the beginning of a new life.

Get On With the Story Already!!!! 20% into this book and it is nothing but constant repeating chapter 1. Somewhat like the movie "groundhog day". The man and the woman are in the dullest relationship with the man taking advantage of the woman over and over and her whining about the relationship to only herself and we the readers. Enough already of this boring and too long introduction to this story. If this highly educated female lawyer doesn't extract herself from this ego maniac soon, I will demand my money back. I have read Steele since the 70's and the past few years her books have not been good-. Shame On Me I buy this author's books only when there's nothing else that intrigues me. And I always kick myself in the pants because I hate that she repeats herself over and over again. She will say one thing on one page and then again on the following pageto the point where you think your mind is playing tricks, so then you go back to see if it is. Annoying. Not once or twice throughout the book, but many times. If she would [or her editor was on the ball] just stop doing this, she might have a decent story line.. Marci Kimball said Loved this book!. Start to finish this book just kept rolling along! It held my interest without any blood & gore & I had a great read! Its fun. Its moving and it has a very cool story line!!!! Read it! You'll be glad you did!!!!T
