Graffiti with a purpose I purchased this as a gift for my husband who loves the city life and has always been a fan of street art. I'd heard of Banksy and was familiar with a few of the more popular pieces but I am so glad I got this book. This is so much more than just a collection of graffiti, its truly brilliant art and often thought provoking. When I think of the street art I see around town, it is usually poorly done, lacks purpose, and actually looks like vandalism. Banksy's work is none of those things. He is taking street art to a whole new level. There is a definite purpose behind each work of art- whether it is hu. The Guardian said HE IS A GENIUS !!! BANKSY? WELCOME TO NYC !!!. I am a born & bred New Yorker and I am also an artist. Banksy is no vandal, he is a true artistic genius. I used to write graffiti when I was younger and those that write just "tags" are vandals. Banksy does beautiful work, transforms environments, and is very clever. He is now one of my favorite artists. To Mayor Bloomberg: You're an idiotyou want the NYPD to catch Banksy because you said he is a vandal? Get your priorities straight Bloomy.we have reckless motorcycle gangs terrorizing motorists, etc. Banksy is no threat. To my Ghetto neighborsi.e. Bed-Sty, East NY, etcsome of you are on YouTube being. Simple and interesting book that makes a great centerpiece for a coffee table TJ Kilian Bought for my father as a gift. Simple and interesting book that makes a great centerpiece for a coffee table. If interested in Banksy, this book is a must have.
“People look at an oil painting and admire the use of brushstrokes to convey meaning. People look at a graffiti painting and admire the use of a drainpipe to gain access.”–Banksy“Since spotting my first few Banksies I have been desperately seeking out more. They make me smile and feel optimistic about the possibilities of shared dreams and common ownership.”–Simon Hattenstone, Guardian
Banksy, Britain's now-legendary "guerilla" street artist, has painted the walls, streets, and bridges of towns and cities throughout the world. Not only did he smuggle his pieces into four of New York City's major art museums, he's also "hung" his work at London's Tate Gallery and adorned Israel's West Bank barrier with satirical images. Banksy's identity remains unknown, but his work is unmistakable—with prints selling for as much as $45,000.
