There was no plot, and no further development to the characters or the storyline. The crazy ex girlfriend was simply thrown in there to try to add pages and a bit of drama which truly took away from the bo. "A short story trying to be a novel." according to Jargon. I want to say this wasn't as good as O'Brian's other novel's but that's assuming that's what this is. In the intro she explains that this started as a short story that got away from her and that's a perfect description.
