Excellent information well written Sonya I bought this after reviewing many similar book summaries. The reviewer who indicated it was written like a story sold me and I'm so glad I got it. Such an easy and -dare I say it- INTERESTING read. Even info we want and need is usually not that fun to read and is more like work. This was enjoyable to read due to the format and style. Now I want a session!!. Great for anyone who needs to communicate orally Jonathan Groner This book is great fun and full of excellent advice. As a fairly successful public speaker (when I have had to speak), I must say that McGowan has it right. A lot of the "old" advice from the 1970s, like envisioning your audience in underwear, is ineffective, he says, and makes no sense. McGowan's better advice: There's no substitute for preparation. I loved his recommended ways of steering an inappropriate or ineffective conversation into a better path without insulting the person who went in the wrong direction. His stories about celebrities or near-celebrities who didn't heed hi. Result- you have no idea what he is talking about. My vocabulary is pretty high so I don't think this would appeal to the average person. Also he uses a lot of American words and refers to American topical events and personalities. I am from New Zealand and some of the time the analogy is lost on me because I don't know what or who he is referring to. For this reason, I don't think it would make a good international book.
