"Fantastic story with great role models." according to Games. Tamora Pierce is one of my favorite authors and now she has some strong competition. It is so rare especially in YA to have two dimensional male and female characters in the same piece of media. This book provided alternatives to super troubling gender tropes and made a pretty firm stand against rape culture. The characters in this book are human beings as I recognize human beings to be, which I know this is kinda weird. "This book went above and beyond my expectations. Interesting" according to Simon. This book went above and beyond my expectations. Interesting characters, surprising plot twists, clever intrigue, fast paced action. I'm looking forward to seeing more of that in the sequel.. I like the book I really like this book. The idea to bring together very different characters by circumstances and then make them bond in their struggle to survive, is interesting and well executed. I also enjoyed the fantasy world populated by the realistic human characters. It’s a good read for the young adults.
