Batman's Mistress said Torn. I waited impatiently for this story and now I'm torn on how to rate it. I really enjoyed the story, but some parts seemed rushed and I found it hard to really connect with the heroine. She came across as somewhat simple minded. Who would refuse to wear protective shoes in a foreign land because the shoes are ugly. SeriouslyHaving said that there were several things that I loved too. I liked the history between her guys, and loved the family tension. Not to mention the tension between them. I really enjoyed how they overcame that together and look forward to the next story.. "it was nice to finally have a female lead of another race/color" according to Kindle Customer. What is it with these romance authors? Whenever a lack of parents needs to be explained the reason given most often is that they died in a "car accident". Has anyone else noticed this? It seems to be a recurring theme throughout the romance genre. Do they teach this technique in creative writing 101?The theme is here, again, in Severed. Riley's parents died in a "hit and run" auto accident. No "Mom died from cancer, Dad a few years later". "Dad died from kidney disease, Mom from a heart attack" etc, etc. Surely there could be a little more diversity when explaining why the fe. Riley is nothing more than a literary sex doll. GEL I recently discovered this series and have enjoyed it over all, with the exception of this book. I'm rating the first two in the series 4 stars, and the second a 3 but this one is more of a 2.5 for me. Why? Well, it started off interestingly enough. I like Riley, and I like that she's not a typical white heroine but having said that her character goes from being a sharp negotiator to blow-up sex doll after she is abducted and negotiates a contract with her aliens.
