. For example, the first seven steps Truby introduces apply to structure: develop "weakness and need" and "desire" in your hero, give him an "opponent" and a "plan" for overcoming that opponent, then throw in a "battle" that leads to "self-revelation" and, finally, a "new equilibrium." "Strong reccomendation, if you write (novels, too) you should get this book." according to Michael Beverly. Well, it took me long enough to get around to reading and reviewing this.I have some favorites out there when it comes to writing (Shawn Coyne, Steve Pressfield, Larry Brooks) and I'd been pretty well versed in outlining and structure. It urged the author to first design the character and to pick a character flaw that he will resolve. Every other facet of the story will spring from that choice including who the other characters are, what the plot will be, the story world. Truby calls it an organic approach but i found myself disagreeing with this assessment, it feels artificial to me. He also devoted a section to the moral of the story.Th. Cinquain said Holy God, this guy knows his stuff. This is the best book I've ever read on writing a story This guy really REALLY know his stuff. Its freaking incredible. This is a book you will review and go over and over as you write your story. It can also be useful in building other products such a mobile applications. I've learned so much from this book that the sheer amount of knowledge I've downloaded was too intense at one point. I had to slow down the reading and take it in slower chunks. Definitely DEFINITELY recommend this book.
