The Complete Idiot's Guide® to Conducting Music shows student and novice conductors how to lead bands, orchestras, choirs, and other ensembles effectively through sight-reading, rehearsals, and performances. The complex art of conducting may look effortless to the casual onlooker; however, it requires a great deal of knowledge and skill. The success of a performance hinges on the director's ability to keep the group playing together and interpreting the music as the composer intended
Wish I read the book before, but read on Denise Ricker I read the entire book page by page. It is extremely well written and spells out everything about conducting. "Complete" is pefect for this book. I got put into a conducting position when I went to concert band rehearsal one night and the guy who said he would do it was not feeling comfortable about it (and he teaches jazz trumpet playing and improv in classes around the US!). I said I would do it. Being a flute player makes i. "Very good book and highly recommend for newbies" according to Anthony J. Nitz. He takes you through conducting rather quickly and I will say if you NEVER conducted before this can be a good introduction to you and giving you the basic, however it might be a little fast paced. All in all, I really like this book and I picked up a few new things after 11 years of conducting a children's choir.. MrPalmer said Just for idiots pretty much. I learned a little bit. It was what the title said. Just for idiots pretty much. I learned a little bit, but not nearly what I needed. I'll be searching for a more comprehensive conducting text. But not bad if you are just wanting a little bit of information.
