Because beauty is only skin deep I have read a lot of books over the years. I mean a lot of books. I can honestly say I've never come across anything like this before. It's as if the author read a fairy tale, looked at the way we have to go to school to learn our jobs in life, and thought, "What if the princesses, princes, and villains in fair. "Compelling characters and riveting plot - I didn't want to put it down" according to Gigi Griffis. I adore this book. The characters are surprising and wonderful, compelling and well developed. The world is scary, but not so scary as to keep you up at night. And the plot kept me turning pages long after I should have been asleep.The story - of two girls kidnapped from their village and then deposited in seem. "A different kind of fairytale - and not what you'd expect" according to C. Lemanski. If you're looking for the next potential Harry Potter, this isn't it. (I have to admit I felt a bit disappointed that I never connected enough with the characters to be interested in a sequel.) But it is a tale with lessons to be told about judging a book by its cover, and about getting what you wish for.Sophie
