Suspensful to the end I have to admit I was very close to putting this book down after reading the first 10 chapters. It was taking a long time for Child to get to the point, but when he did there was no turning back and you understood why those initial chapters were important to the story line, if a little dull. This is one of those books that you read into the wee hours of the morning, skip your favorite TV shows and even take with you too the bathroom. I'll be reading more of Lee Child in the future.. Different twist from Lincoln Child D. Cox I've been a long-time reader of Child and Preston (Predergast series, etc), and was a little leery about this novel. However I was very pleased to be introduced to a new character in Jeremy Logan and a different type of setting. It was a very fun read, quick with a lot going on. I learned a little and had a lot of fun reading this. I'm looking forward to reading the other Logan novel in the near future.
Under the direction of famed explorer Porter Stone, an archaeological team is secretly attempting to locate the tomb of an ancient pharaoh who was unlike any other in history. What he finds will raise new questions and alarm. In the hands of master storyteller Lincoln Child, The Third Gate breaks new ground and introduces a fascinating new protagonist to the thriller world.. No crown of an Egyptian king has ever been discovered, and Narmer's is the elusive crown of the two Egypts, supposedly possessed of awesome powers. The dig itself is located in one of the most forbidding places on Earth - the Sudd, a nearly impassable swamp in northern Sudan. With a monumental discovery in reach, Professor Jeremy Logan is brought onto the project to investigate. Stone believes he has found the burial chamber of King Narmer, the near mythical god-king who united upper and lower Egypt in 3200 B.C., and the archaeologist has reason to believe that the greatest prize of all - Narmer's crown - might be buried with him. Amid the nightmarish, disorienting tangle of mud and dead vegetation, a series of harrowing and inexplicable occurrences are causing people on the expedition to fear a centuries - old curse
