Inspiration for Transformation Philip Ledgerwood I am the co-owner of a Lean/Agile Operations consulting firm that works primarily with software developers. A lot of the practices and values behind the practices in the book are our own in some similar form or another. Don't get me wrong; there are creative ideas in there, but if you stay abreast of various trends in agile software development, you're probably not going to see a specific technique that just blows your mind (although you will probably appreciate the value of paired programming more than you do, now). For me, the power of this book is that it starts with a core of wanting to create a company to end human suffering with regards. Joyfully human I bought the book after watching an InfoQ presentation that Rich gave at the Agile Singapore 2015 conference (infoq.com/presentations/workplace-joy).It's an easy read that covers a lot of ground. After finishing it and trying to think of ways that pieces might be applied, I feel like there are some details missing. I want to know how the employee's do their time tracking but I guess I'll just have to email Rich. Still, there is a lot of useful suggestions in terms of what they do at Menlo Innovations and things to try. Rich is describing his dream workplace so you'll need to make your own. You'll need to try the experiments to find out what . Great book but in not innovative in todays environment garkler First off, I loved the book! It was nice to read, the writing is interesting and informative and I read it just a few sit-ings.Secondly, the book could have easily been called "how agile can work in your workplace" as many elements of kanban and agile are.presented here (not to say these arent great ideas!!!) These are ideas that are alteady widespread and quite mainstream today in computer software companies. So all in all, i dont come out of this book with a WOW factor but it is good to read on positive examples of successful agile imolementations and reassurance of modern methodologies.
The results blew away all expectations. With joy as the explicit goal, he and his team changed everything about how the company was run. “A guidebook for how leaders can motivate, engage, and recognize their people all the while growing the business profitably.” —ForbesEvery year, thousands of visitors come from around the world to visit Menlo Innovations, a small software company in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
