DESCRIPTION:

From its roots in 1970s New York disco and '80s Detroit techno to today's international, mainstream explosion of such genres as house, trance & dubstep, electronic dance music has reshaped the popular musical landscape. We hear from the artists who defined the genre (Jean Michel Jarre, Depeche Mode, Deadmau5, BT, Kraftwerk and more). Revisit the most significant synths, beatboxes, and musical tools that made the music possible, through the eyes of those who first played them. This book digs deep through the archives of Keyboard magazine to unearth the insider history of the art and technology of the EDM movement, written as it happened. Learn the history, then the expert techniques behind the music, so you can apply the same craft to your own music and mixes.. (Keyboard Presents)

Very happy I stumbled upon this book. Highly recommend. "Seems to like the book" according to Maria Voorhees. Purchased as a gift for my stepdad. He's into modular synths and stuff. Seems to like the book.. "great overview, focuses on technical aspects of production" according to M. Austin. This collection of Keyboard & Remix magazine articles from the last couple decades is, as it's title states, an overview of the evolution of dance music, specifically the artist's production methods. Musicians spill the beans on their favorite gear, and while the lists of outboard effects and software patches will be of interest to producers and aspiring musicians, the average electronic music fan may find it boring. This is certainly a technical look at music making, and considering it's an anthology of separate magazine articles, shouldn't be viewed as a seamless cultural history. Of particular note are interviews
