While Melinda is bothered by these things, deep down she knows the real reason why she's been struck mute Laurie Halse Anderson's first novel is a stunning and sympathetic tribute to the teenage outcast. Every time I try to talk to my parents or a teacher, I sputter or freeze. The triumphant ending, in which Melinda finds her voice, is cause for cheering (while many readers might also shed a tear or two). After reading Speak, it will be hard for any teen to look at the class scapegoat again

Beautiful story I didn't think I'd be so gripped by this book but the author captures the pains and troubles of everyday high school life with such honesty and emotion that I couldn't help recognize half the characters from my own high school days. There's Rachel, the ex best friend who's had a personality transplant over the summer Heather, the temporary friend who's only waiting to be snapped up my a cooler clique and, of course, the protagonist who doesn't quite fit in anywhere. The beauty of this novel is that it could have survived alone without the much more sinister story behind. An Insightful Read Speak is a book I had to read for school, it is not something I would have chosen to read on my own. With that being said I would give the book four stars. I think that it encourages people to speak up for themselves. I think that Laurie Anderson does a good job at pulling the reader into the mind of Melinda Sordinon and by getting pulled into Melinda’s mind hooked me, I did not want to put the book down. Melinda is freshman in high school that experienced a horrific event that nobody deserves to go through but so many people have experienced. Not only is she try. A true masterpiece that is witty and emotionally powerful Dustin Faurote I could not put this book down. This book is an amazing reflection of the effects of trauma and depression on youth. While this story is mainly taking place inside Melinda's mind it is heart wrenchingly beautiful and tragic as she explores her world in a new way with a new perspective. Her wit and unique personality really shine as observes her world. This is an emotionally charged story that explores how a girl reclaims her identity and sense of self worth after enduring a traumatic event that essentially breaks her but luckily we join her on her journey of healing an

She is friendlessan outcastbecause she busted an end-of-summer party by calling the cops, so now nobody will talk to her, let alone listen to her. The critically acclaimed, award-winning, modern classic Speak is now a stunning graphic novel."Speak up for yourself-we want to know what you have to say." From the first moment of her freshman year at Merryweather High, Melinda knows this is a big fat lie, part of the nonsense of high school. Through her work on an art project, she is finally able to face what really happened that night: She was raped by an upperclassman, a guy who still attends Merryweather and is still a threat to her. With powerful illustrations by Emily Carroll Speak: The Graphic Novel comes alive for new audiences and fans of the classic novel.
