THE SHARK - Forgotten Files Book 1 Trooper Riley Tatum was once a teenage runaway who was lucky enough to have survived the streets. Twelve years later, she's the first responder at a crime scene where she discovers the body of a young prostitute who looks much like herself at that age. As another connection between herself and the victim comes to light, she realizes there's a madman out there who gets his thrills by betting on the lives of runaway teens Clay Bowman is a former FBI agent who once worked the case in New Orleans. He now works for a prestigious private security firm and is assigned to assist Riley in the investigation, as wel. "Some great/believable characters in this story" according to Mrs Woofy. I loved Riley as the main character. Her story flowed, she wasn't dramatic, was intelligent, had baggage but didn't go on about it, and just plain normal (job, exercise, tight funds etc). Even when Clay came into the picture the story wasn't suddenly all girly and sexual. Some great/believable characters in this story . some work acquaintances not liking her (being a girl) and the cranky farmer.. Good mystery. Weak romance. Bvpreadsalot If this had been billed as just a suspense novel, I'd have rated it 4 stars. But it is designated as romantic suspense, and the romance was way underdone. (NOTE: I came back to this comment to let you know that the next book in this, The Dollmaker, has a perfect blend of suspense + romance)On suspense part, the book kept me guessing while laying a legitimate trail; plenty of action, plenty of relevant players. Nicely drawn characters. On romance part, bulk of romance was a single interaction reviewed about 5 timesthen finally, some new movement. I liked the leads individually, and they make a good couple.
