Sound Reproduction: The Acoustics and Psychoacoustics of Loudspeakers and Rooms, Third Edition explains the physical and perceptual processes that are involved in sound reproduction and demonstrates how to use the processes to create high-quality listening experiences in stereo and multichannel formats. The robust website (routledge/cw/toole) is the perfect companion to this necessary resource.. This revision brings new science-based perspectives on the performance of loudspeakers, room acoustics, measurements and equalization, all of which need to be appropriately used to ensure the accurate delivery of music and movie sound tracks from creators to listeners. Understanding the principles of sound production is necessary to achieve the goals of sound reproduction in spaces ranging from recording control rooms and home listening rooms to large cinemas
Non scientists need not apply You need to be realistic if you purchase this book. The author is a superb scientist and recognized authority in the field of acoustic engineering. If you have a strong background in the "hard sciences" i.e. math, physics, chemistry then you'll get a lot out of this book. I have advanced degrees in biological sciences and frankly much of this book was too complex for me. A standard reference - the 1st book to purchase on audio This book is a standard reference that should be in everyone's library who is interested in home audio and home theaterIn an easy to read format the book provides the results of decades of research performed by Dr. Toole (with support from other excellent staff) at Harmon International. The results of real research, not just opinions, are hard to come by in the audio fi. Speaker Manufacturers should heed his advice In short, I keep re-reading this book - probably the last collection by Floyd Toole. I wish most speaker manufacturers would heed his advice and give the consumer the data they need to make meaningful decisions. As an engineer (retired) but from another discipline, I gather a lot of useful information in this book. Sean Olive or other protege should come up with an enha
