Comprehensive guide to the basics Mariana Gonzalez I originally liked the look of this book because it was separated into clear sections and each chapter looked both interesting and useful. Another feature of this book that I liked was the fact that it also contained cultural tips and Japanese faux pas - which I thought would be extremely useful, especially for people who wanted to visit Japan. As a novice speaker and writer of Japa. "Not what I expected" according to silverlining. This is not a handbook for learning the language. It gives some background on Japanese customs, generalities about the language, and only a handful of useful phrases. To learn to speak and understand rudimentary Japanese, I will have to purchase another book or program.. I don't know what to put here, so pizza! I give it five stars, even though I already knew a few things from the book by watching anime, it taught me tons of new things about the language. A little grammar here, some vocabulary there, it was simple and straight forward.
