Classic Portrait Painting in Oils I gave this book the highest rating that I could because it is the best book on the subject I have found. I am an oil-painting enthusiast, and after 10 years or so, I am pursuing human portraiture. This book is a very quick study and reference guide to producting good portraits. It is very well written and, for such an easy read, it is comprehensive. One learns a wide range of skills, from multi-racia. Thumb nail sketches that "Nail-It" This is the perfect book for me because there is a thumb nail sketch for almost every skin tone. The salient point is to point the way not paint the way. Interestingly many portraits are painted from two approaches, one from the live model and second from a photograph. This is one of many reasons why I loved it. There is nothing to dislike in the book because Chris Saper says is there NO one and only . this is the foundation to the shingles of portrait making Chris Saper brings science and orderly method to the art of painting portraits. She teaches why the color is, and when you know why the color is, your art will improve. This book is appropriate and useful for anyone making portraits in any medium, including photography using Lightroom or Photoshop, and digital imaging.
